Truck Donated To Transaid Partner In Sri Lanka By IVECO

Following the 2004 tsunami Transaid worked with Sarvodaya, Sri Lanka’s biggest charity to asses their transport needs and improve their planning and systems for the reconstruction effort. It recruited two volunteer logisticians from corporate member Wincanton who spent two weeks in Sri Lanka analyzing the immediate and future transport needs. Our volunteers assessed the need for a suitable vehicle for moving building materials.
IVECO were asked to supply this vehicle and they donated a new EuroTrakker six axle truck with training and parts agreement, which is now being used to move building materials for homes and children’s playgrounds.
This is a picture of the donated truck in Sri Lanka, taken on the official handover visit by an Iveco representative, who also conducted technical training for the users from Sarvodaya.

Hazmatspotting is one of my hobbies: when I see a truck with a hazardous-materials placard, I check the number against the Emergency Response Guidebook (I keep a list on my PDA, adding details about when and where I first spotted it). This truck is carrying diesel fuel, although #1993 is a bit of a catchall — it can include "liquid disinfectant, n.o.s. (not otherwise specified)", "cosmetics, n.o.s.", "drugs, n.o.s.", etc. This is okay because you’d respond to a spill of any of these things in roughly the same way.
