Restored gas station, fire truck, and gas truck

Stoke Ranch is a unique Santa Rosa landmark. Fred Stoke’s collection of oil cans is possibly the world’s largest, and his property is covered with other automotive collectibles along with a restored gas station, church, and country store facade. Ask nice, and he just may let you peek inside this personal wonderland.

Lincoln’s Toe Truck

This truck could be seen when getting off I-5 on the Mercer exit for many years.
In 2000 the property it sat on was sold and the truck was given to the MOHAI (Museum of History and Industry).

Overloaded truck…

Image by Eleventh Earl of Mar
Unfortunate rather than bad parking.
Not that I believe in God particularly, but I’m sure the insurance company have it listed under the category ‘act of God’…
Probably a tailgater…
For the record, this was the result of a mudslide in the winter of 2004.
This truck was smashed by a mudslide near Lake Arrowhead during the intense rains of the winter of 2004.
It’s directly opposite a house that I almost bought. The house was OK, but it’s one of those hillside houses with many stairs leading up to it. To say that the stairs were buried in mud would be an understatement.

The Rescue Truck

KFD Engine 5 was different.
The paint job was your first clue; this truck was painted white, with red trim. That word, RESCUE, on the door was another clue. 5 was a traditional pumper in most ways, but it was equipped to handle auto accidents and other unusual situations; this included carrying the sorts of paramedic supplies which modern fire departments put into ambulances. Of course, in the ’50s there were no true paramedics on the Kalamazoo Fire Department.
This is my favorite of Dad’s Martin Sernstinger photographs. It shows engine 5 in some sort of training exercise, pumping water out of a pond–and right back into the pond. Marty obviously enlisted the department’s hook and ladder to make a high perch.
The snow’s a neat touch, too. Eventually you’re going to need to fight a fire in a blizzard….
